Here is what I did the other day. I trimmed some thorny barberry, and made a hedge around the little young trees. The idea is to make a little thicket the deer won't want to mess with. What do you think, will it work? Jade

Here's another picture. I tied it to posts to secure it, and then tied smaller branches along the tree to cover it with thorns. I hope deer don't like thorns. Will this work? Jade

I'm not sure about the thorns. We had the same problem. The deer ate our pear trees. We bought some chicken wire, put it around what was left of the trunks and branches. When the trees grew above the fence, we tied disposible pie tins to the branches. The noise they make in the wind deter the deer. Also a few shavings of Irish Spring soap around the perimeter of the tree helps too. thumbofgreen

This is a great idea. I think i will try it.
I also used human hair and rotten meat.

What do you do for deer? We had deer munch several young trees. Here is the damage.
