I have been searching for the name of this plant for years but am still in vain. I first spotted it in a remote island in Thailand. Could anyone help me?
I have no idea, but I'll ask my botanist friend if he knows. He might be able to narrow it down. Do you have any pictures of the flower?
It is a beautiful plant. What else do you know about it? Roots, prefered soil, etc? Jade

Hi Jade, Thanks! I noticed that the plant grew at the base of a birch tree. But I know little about its roots or preferred soil conditions as it seemed to be growing out of wilderness.
Please find enclosed here a picture of its flower. I can still remember that there're bluish-black seeds at the center of the matured flowers. RaimundTse

Hm...not a birch tree, but a Paper-bark Tree. RaimundTse

It reminds me of oxalis. I wonder if they are related. Do you happen to know if it is edible? Jade

Haha, you're really reading my mind. I got exactly the same feeling that it's related to Oxalis when I first saw it a few years ago.
Yet the texture of their stem is different - Oxalis is more succulent while this one has got a more woody stem structure.
I also wonder what the use of the peculiar foliage shape is - pollination by a specific kind of insect or animal?
Because of the foliage shape, I'm calling it "Glider Weed" myself.
Hope there'll be someone knowing more about it. RaimundTse

It doesn't seem to be edible as it's growing out in the wild, although it appears to be innocuous. RaimundTse

My botanist friend didn't know what it was. He said it was very interesting though, highly unusual. Jade
