Portlanders: Tomorrow night I'll be doing the first of my new monthly talks on GardenMedicine — how to get medicine as well as food and beauty (both also medicine) from your own back yard. We'll be at Buffalo Gardens on Dekum, starting at 6 p.m., the first Wednesday of every month, all year long. Directions and info in the link below.

Wouldn't some free water from the sky be awesome right about now? We're already having the gray mornings...

I've lived in Oregon almost my whole life, but now that I'm a gardener, it seems so strange how dry our summers are.

In Northern Cali when they cut down the trees they leave behind a desert. Just like the Amazon. A lot like here.

I know it's the end of June, but what with this crazy weather and all, I'll be direct seeding beans (pole and bush) tomorrow in the sunshine!

I'm learning so much from this site. I think the thing I am worst at is timing, and it helps to see what you're doing. Anybody else putting beans in?

Garlics are putting up their flower stalks. Food soon!

In the meantime, got the basil, cukes, zukes, 'matoes, sunflowers, chard, honeyberry, boy arguta kiwi, shizandra and convallaria planted today. I may not be able to move tomorrow, but...

It learned two new plants thanks to your post, thank you! (shizandra and convallaria)

Yesterday I cut the spears from my garlic plants, grilled them, and enjoyed them immensely. It made me want to grow more garlic!

Picked up still MORE thyme for my front-yard garden's thyme carpet. This one is "mother of thyme," nice and wild.

We had this in our last house, and it was wonderful. It was wonderful to sit on, and the bees loved it too. It did eventually get a bit leggy and did need occasional weeding, but we loved it! What a lovely plant!
