Spitzenberg apples closeup 9-8-10

Very urban SE Portland

Trees, all trees. Two apples on M.111 that are going to be way too big to work if I let them, plus six on M.9 espaliered so I can keep them in reach. The competition is a young (10 y/o) Oregon White Oak that will eventually shade the whole yard and some of the neighborhood. Trees are shading enough that I can't grow vegetables. If I achieve enough shade, I'llgrow mushrooms.

USDA Zone: 8b

Soil: Clay, with old rock driveway and buried trash
