I realized I have quite a surplus of seeds from the past couple of years—tomato, cucumber, beans, pepper, greens, etc. Some are heirloom, some are not. I’d be more than happy to share with anyone looking to try something new, or just save a little money on seeds this year.
Let me know what type of seeds you are looking for and I'd be happy to send them to you.

We're looking to sprout some heirloom tomatos and cukes. I'd love to take some seeds off your hands :)

Great. I have 4 different heirloom tomatos and 2 cukes varieties I got from seed savers last year. Send me an email and we can plan the best way to get them to you (jerodt@comcast.net).

I'm so excited to be part of this site, what a great way to start 2011. The seed catalogues are coming in and it's always so much fun to think about all the possibilities for the coming year's garden.
Last year I try to start the majority of my plants from seed. It was great in that it gave me something to do in those days before I could find much enjoyment outside, but getting the timing right on how sooon to start seeds, tranfer containers, and harden them off was a bit tricky. I'll admit that this year I'm thinking of doing more starts than seeds (except for peas, beans and lettuces which I think I timed pretty well).
Looking forward to exchanging ideas and keeping you all updated on my trials and learning opportunities.

Welcome Jerod!
I think timing is one of the coolest things about this site. I plan to watch the site carefully as I start my starts and also post as I start everything. Hopefully that should help me get my timing better than in previous years.
I think it is fine to purchase starts but try to use the community here to get your timing right.
What is your garden like? Any idea of what you plan to do this year? Anything you want to do differently than last year?
I'm getting better at starting seeds but it takes practice. Last year I actually set up a pretty nice starter station and I've been using it all winter to grow extra lettuce. It's been good practice but also a little easier than growing them outside.
My biggest challenges last year were with slugs. I am thinking of getting ducks or chickens, but it might be postponed a bit since we have a lot on our plate right now. Drats!
But super pleased to have you on the site. I thought the site would go dark during the winter but people are still checking in.

The smell of spring is definately in the air. I finally planted my peas and fava beans this last weekend (2 varieties of each). I realize I may be a bit late, but I figured it was still worth trying. I also "drafted" out where everything will eventually end up in my garden plot this year. Thought I'd attach my plan to share with you all.

Looking good!! Is the middle part a walkway? I don't think you are too late for the peas and beans. I'll plant my peas weekly starting now through mid to late April and haven't had any problems.
