Last year I bought my first home. This year, my goal is to work on the backyard and grow my own veggies. Currently in the process of building raised beds.
USDA Zone: 8b
Soil: I know it's a type of sandy soil, not exactly sure what kind

I never realize how much hard work landscaping really is, until the end of the day, when my back is complaining...
This weekend we spent time sinking a couple posts for a garden fence. We painted both the posts and the fence panels and I painted the trellises the same color, for some consistency.
I wish I was further ahead in my plans. My mom is coming this weekend, and I would have liked to spend time in the garden with her. I've already pruned the roses and picked the lemons. Oh well, guess she'll have to come back.
I got some bareroot blueberry and raspberry shrubs and plan to plant them this weekend. These shrubs are new to me. Does anyone know if I follow the same routine to plant these as I do with bareroot roses? I usually soak the roses in water and B1 for a few hours before putting them in the ground.
Here's a pic of what my yard looks like now. Little by little, it's getting there.

I don't know about barerooted roses specifically, but that sounds right to me.
Keep in mind that raspberries will spread. I was surprised how deep their roots go and at how quickly they sucker.
The blueberries have very shallow root systems and apparently don't like a lot of root competition. I mulch them heavily with wood chips and they seem to be doing well so far.
Keep posting photos! It is fun to see someone's garden adventures in the middle of the dark Oregon winter!
