Silly questions about squash and potatoes
My garden is very laissez faire this year. I cannot remember which kind of squash seeds I planted, or even if these squash plants are volunteers.
I have some orange zucchini type squash growing. Not sure if they are delicata variations or a zucchini variation. How can I tell if they are summer or winter squash?
Also have a giant squash that looks like a spaghetti squash. when are they ready to harvest?
On potatoes--my French fingerlings look ready to harvest, but when I uncover them the potatoes look green still? Is there something I can do? Should I wait and hope they ripen some more?
Kale is a dream this year, with prodigious amounts of every variety. They are like trees (OK , shrubs) out there!

Our cool summer has helped with a great kale crop this year.

Hi Anne:
I'm not an expert on these things by any means, but I'll hazard a response:
I believe you can tell winter vs. summer squash by the type of skin. The delicata squash is a winter squash, so it should have a hard outer skin.
I'm not sure exactly how to know when to harvest winter squash.
According to http://www.vegetable-gardening-online.com/harvesting-potatoes.html the green is a sign they weren't deep enough in the soil, and you can hill them up and wait a couple more weeks.
Hope that helps -- let us know how it goes!
